The habits of very happy people

Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Highly happy people all share  happy habits .  It’s as simple as that.  The happiest people I know share 7 very obvious habits.  If you’re looking to expand your general happiness you may consider adopting these habits in your own life. Be a Part of Something You Believe In  – This could be anything.  People may take an active role in their local city council, find refuge in religious faith, join a social club supporting causes they believe in, or find passion in their careers.  In each case the physiological outcome is the same.  They engage themselves in something they strongly believe in.  This engagement brings happiness and meaning into their lives. Share Time with Friends and Family  – A happy life is a life shared with friends and family.  The stronger the personal relationships are and the higher the frequency...

Create your own wishful universe

"Life is what we make of it.” We have all been told that a countless times. But do any of us take the time to understand this statement? Life can be beautiful, exactly the way we want it. There can be a world where there is peace and prosperity, where you are surrounded by the people you love and respect. All it requires is a change in perception and the realisation that we can create a world as we want it. We see what we choose to see and believe what we decide to believe. If we choose to focus on the goodness around, we won’t encounter the bad. Every experience that we currently perceive as negative and painful will then be perceived as a part of learning and growth. If we choose to trust, then betrayal will remain only if there is a lesson to be learnt from it. Yet, our shortcoming is that most of us are not in the habit of trusting in the goodness and in our power to create. We are taught that people don’t do things without a personal reason and that there must be...

Be your own Boss

It all starts with an idea. And enterprising youngsters are brimming with them.  Entrepreneurship is many things to many people. It is the art of becoming rich to some; to a few others, it is freedom from authority; for yet others it is acquiring authority and to a small group it is the art of creating something from nothing. As you can see, entrepreneurship is what “you” want it to be. A popular school of thought holds that entrepreneurship is all about the “Idea.” I hold the view that it is as much about the person and the founding team as about the idea. Times will change, ideas will be irrelevant, but it is the people behind the idea who adapt and make the new reality a new opportunity. Start ideating It is very easy to fail on a brilliant idea if the founder has mismatches in character. Similarly, the individual with phenomenal traits can make a huge success of an average idea. Berkshire Hathaway, as a company when it was first acquired was a failing business but due to one ...

Mind over matter

Meditation has been established as a powerful tool for ushering in peace of mind and putting an end to stress and related maladies like tension headaches, premature ageing and chronic fatigue syndrome If there is one thing that can travel faster than the speed of light, it is the human mind. From dawn to dusk, a jumble of chaotic thoughts crowd our subconscious, demanding our time and attention. This can affect the health and peace of mind. Promoting healing In simplistic terms, meditation is a kind of conscious relaxation—an inner journey towards calmness and tranquillity. According to information released by the Meditation Society of America, regular sessions can improve one’s I.Q., foster creativity and imagination; reduce blood pressure while promoting clear thinking and healing emotional scars and balance. Meditation does not have to have spiritual or religious implications, nor even any rigid rules. Though there are different techniques, the American  Journal of Health Prom...

Take a second look at yourself

I think I am too fat', ‘too short', ‘my hair's too straight'… if you are the type who never tires of self-assessment, then get ready for a mental makeover. Self-image is how you see yourself which reflects on how you feel. Today's youngster often suffers from poor self-image. It's a young people's ‘thing'. Sometimes even something as simple as walking across a room may be traumatic, as the person feels like all eyes are on him/her, judging and analysing. Ask any person how they feel about their looks and you will probably get something like, “I'm too fat” or “I could've been a little taller” or “Maybe if I had straight hair, I'd look better” or “I'm a shade too dark” ... Very few actually say they feel perfect, inside out. It's nobody's fault, really. All in the mind In today's world, with so many ‘beautiful' people around, one who is different from the conventional perception of beauty may actually feel awkward. “I rem...

The million dollar question

“Am I fit?” How many times would you have asked yourself this question? Self-evaluation on fitness is tough because you never know what you are supposed to be looking for! Even a “slim” woman could be unhealthy. Conversely, a “stout” man could be really fit. So what are the criteria? Let's reflect just a little bit on fitness and what it means. Stand in front of a full-length mirror and take a good, hard look at yourself. Do you see a slouching body that needs to stand tall? Pinch your midriff. Are your fingers picking up a roll of fat? Smile. Does your face glow; do you feel energetic; are you in shape? Remember, your mirror tells you a lot. Often, it is more accurate than the opinions of people around, so pay attention! These questions tell you where you are right now. But, as you are aware, your fitness status could keep changing. There could be phases in your life where exercise is minimal such as during the monsoon season, or when you are on a vacation. You have to make a co...

31 Life Lessons

1. It’s okay to make mistakes. Mistakes and failures are there to teach us. If we learn from them and correct the way on our path, better things will result from it. 2. We create our own reality. We have the power to break mental patterns that no longer serve us, and we have the power to consciously choose thoughts that empower us. It’s only a matter of breaking old habits and creating new ones. 3. Finding validation and seeking love from another person through relationships is a self-destructive path. Those types of relationships never last, and when they end, they burn in heartache. You must love and respect yourself first. When you wholeheartedly love who you are, the world will fall in love with you, and the right relationship will fall into place. Until I fully accept, love and respect myself, I will continue to attract those relationships rooted in fear, insecurities and disempowerment. 4. A few moments of silence each day will broaden your horizon, strengthen your self-a...

What Does That Smile Mean?

What does that smile really mean?   50 different kinds of smiles make it difficult to decide. Just because someone smiles at you, it doesn't mean that they are pleased to see you, or even happy. Humans have a large repertoire of smiles which indicate different things. We need a good understanding of facial expression and body language, to work these out correctly. There are eighty muscles at work in a smiling face. Genuine, happy smiles tend to broaden out from a minor facial movement to a broad expression that encompasses the whole face. Smiles don't have to be happy. They can be smiles of fear, misery, or even contempt. Smiles send powerful messages in terms of body language, but there seems to be a difference in the way they are used. Women smile more than men when they don't know what to do, because they know that if they smile they won't get it wrong. Men tend not to smile when they don't know what to do because they see it as a sign of we...
